Juxtaposition

A commentary series on Psalm 139 in haiku poetic form.

Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord,
And abhor those who rise up against you?
I have nothing but hatred for them;
   I count them my enemies.
                                                               Psalm 139:21-227-18

Juxtaposition

If left up to me
I would banish God haters,
Hide grace from their grasp.

If one were to hate
Feel this emotion rightly
It must be righteous.

For God haters raise
A bloody cross where Love hangs,
Offering forgiveness.

 Quote to Ponder . . .
Why does a man like to be made sad by viewing doleful and tragic scenes, which he himself could not by any means endure? Yet, as a spectator, he wishes to experience from them a sense of grief, and in this very sense of grief his pleasure consists. What is this but wretched madness?
Augustine of Hippo, Confessions (written between AD 397-400)

The two compositions here cause the listener to ponder the powerful emotions that sin draws from deep within the human heart and from the heart of God. During this season leading up to Good Friday, take time to listen and reflect. Consider how Jesus Christ in his death and resurrection brings resolution between God haters and a righteous God.

Lamentations of Jeremiah (Lamentaciones de Jermias)Randall Stroope, 2015

 O vos omnes,
   O you people,
Qui transitis per viam,
   Who pass this way,
Attendite et videte
   Look and see
Si est dolor,
If there is any sorrow (agony),
Sicut dolor meus.
   Like my sorrow.
Recordare Domine
   Remember, Lord.
